Switzerland in ICC Arbitration

The 2025 ICC Dispute Resolution Statistics once more confirm Switzerland’s leadership in international arbitration. Owing to the liberal approach of the Swiss legal system towards arbitration, its political stability and neutrality, as well as its world-class facilities for international proceedings, Switzerland has played a prominent role in global arbitration for decades. Geneva and Zurich are frequently chosen as seats even in cases where none of the parties has a direct connection to Switzerland.

In 2025, the ICC registered 881 new cases under the ICC Arbitration Rules worldwide.

Switzerland’s performance in focus:

• Strong representation of Swiss arbitrators: In 2025, Swiss arbitrators received 79 confirmations and appointments, representing 5.7% of all confirmations and appointments globally -ranking Switzerland sixth worldwide.
• Fourth most-popular seat: With 53 cases, Switzerland ranked fourth globally among the most frequently selected jurisdictions as places of arbitration. Geneva and Zurich, with 27 and 24 cases respectively, together accounted for 7.5% of all ICC places of arbitration and both ranked among the world’s ten most frequently selected arbitration cities.
• Swiss law highly chosen: Swiss law was selected in 50 cases, making it the fourth most frequently selected governing law in ICC arbitrations in 2025.
